The Private Pilot Knowledge Exam
Taking practice exams regularly helps you assess your knowledge and get comfortable with the format of the FAA knowledge test. ASA offers a fantastic book to study for the questions on the knowledge exam. Included, is 5 free practice tests at prepware.com once you feel comfortable with the topics. Prior to taking your knowledge exam, we will review your performance on these practice tests together, then you’ll schedule your exam!
Preparing for the Private Pilot Practical Exam
The final step of training is the check-ride, administered by a Designated Flight Examiner (DPE). This practical test consists of an oral portion, as well as a flight portion. During the oral you will demonstrate your knowledge on a variety of topics such as pilot privileges, aircraft maintenance, weather, cross country planning, and aircraft systems. After completing the first half of the check-ride, you will be expected to perform a number of maneuvers, landings, and other tasks during the flight with the examiner. Standards and expectations for the exam may be found in the Airman Certification Standards (ACS).
